Encyclopedia of U.S. Postage Stamps
More than 2,750 face-different stamps are shown in the 1996 edition of the Encyclopedia of U.S. Postage Stamps, the third edition of this popular, one-of-a-kind CD-ROM that works on both Windows (including Windows 95) and Mac systems.
Philatelic information--keyed to the Minkus numbering system--is presented for all major varieties from the 1847 5-cent Benjamin Franklin through all stamps issued in 1995. All illustrations are in full color, able to be copied and used as "clip art."
The Encyclopedia features individual articles on each face-different stamp, along with major articles on beginning stamp collecting, U.S. errors, using on-line services in philately, and listings of philatelic periodicals and organizations.
Extremely user friendly, the CD-ROM does not require considerable hard-disk space on installation (as is the case for most CD-ROMs available today). Its various operational features are simple to understand and take advantage of with only the on-screen guides. Users are successfully navigating this CD-ROM within minutes of slipping it into their drive.
Quick Buttons at the bottom of the screen allow access to any bit of information in seconds.
An array of indices allow the user to search for stamps by catalog number, year of issue, alphabet, or a host of topical areas.
This CD-ROM meets the needs of ...
... stamp collectors seeking background information about individual U.S. stamp designs; ... students (or researchers) seeking capsule data about the most important people, places, and events in U.S. history;
... the trivia buff who cannot otherwise find such an abundance of basic information;
... stamp club newsletter editors needing information and/or illustrations instantly as a deadline approaches;
... stamp dealers with potential customers not certain of the educational impact of stamp collecting, or with customers seeking the "perfect" gift for friends/relatives who are not (yet) collectors.
The database of color illustrations, praised by William F. Sharpe in his "Linn's Stamp News" column, "Computers and Stamps," is worth far more than the retail price of this project when compared to other specialized groupings of clip art.
This is certainly a CD-ROM that any serious dealer or collector should have in his library.
Visa, Mastercard and American Express are welcome.
